Build a foundation for lasting recovery from addiction

Mindfulness allows you to focus on the present moment and be aware of your thoughts, feelings, and sensations without judgment. This can help you learn to control your reactions to triggers and cravings. Meditation enables you to develop a sense of calm and inner peace. It can also help you learn to control your thoughts and emotions. Both mindfulness and meditation can help you develop healthy coping skills and reduce stress.

We know that no two situations are alike at Evoke Waltham, so we provide a highly individualized approach to comprehensive healing. Our experienced treatment professionals are available 24/7 to assist men, women, and their families who have been affected by a substance use disorder and are looking for immediate intervention. What Is Mindfulness and Meditation Therapy?

We offer a variety of therapeutic services, including mindfulness and meditation therapy. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, also known as MBCT, is a method of psychotherapy that combines meditation, cognitive behavioral therapy, and mindfulness. Mindfulness refers to actively working towards living in the present moment while cultivating a non-judgmental mindset, ultimately accepting self and accepting others for exactly who and what they are. There are generally three main steps involved in MBCT, which include:

  1. Slow down to observe the experience that you are having. Ask yourself various grounding questions, including, “How am I doing right now?” “What are my current surroundings?” “Am I safe?”
  2. Focus on your breathing, slowing down the breath, and breathing in and out to a specific rhythm.
  3. Notice how the body feels and pay particular attention to all physical sensations.

Additional MBCT techniques include meditation and mindfulness, yoga, sitting meditations, mindfulness oriented-stretching, and body scan exercises. The goal of mindfulness and meditation therapy is to help patients become more aware of the present moment while accepting self, situation, thoughts, and feelings.

Mindfulness and Meditation Therapy Can Benefit Your Addiction Recovery

Mindfulness and meditation have proven highly effective in the treatment of substance use and have been shown to have a wide variety of proven effects, including:

  • Stress-reduction
  • Increasing self-confidence coupled with decreasing self-consciousness
  • Ability to be present and in the moment
  • Working through uncomfortable feelings and emotions in a healthy and productive way
  • Working towards a non-judgmental mindset
  • Ability to work through fear
  • Becoming unstuck from the past and settling into the present

There is ample evidence pointing toward the fact that mindfulness and meditation have a significant positive impact on the physical body and mind. Research shows that mindfulness and meditation are suitable for the heart, reducing hypertension and blood pressure. Additional research shows that mindfulness prevents cognitive decline and can even help prevent the development of Alzheimer’s and other degenerative brain diseases.
